Dominic Schimizzi commits to Robert Morris University

Feb 16, 2022

Former Wrangler Dominic Schimizzi announced his college commitment to Robert Morris University to further his education and hockey career.

Schimizzi played 38 games for the Wranglers before being traded at the deadline to the Aberdeen Wings for Chase Davis, a tendered player, and a future draft pick. Schimizzi tallied nine goals and 11 assists during his time in Amarillo.

“Dominic’s commitment to Robert Morris University is an incredible story of individual perseverance and collaboration with our newly founded Amarillo Wranglers hockey program,” Wranglers GM and Head Coach Harry Mahood said.

The Wranglers forward provided a jolt both on and off the ice for Amarillo, spending plenty of time visiting schools and working other community events. Schimizzi represented the Wranglers in the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, scoring three points (2G,1A) in the two-game tournament.

“Dom is a player we acquired in the offseason from the NAHL waiver wire and thrived in our culture,” Mahood said. “He worked closely with our staff to build his game to a Division 1 level and has also been extremely generous with his time and efforts away from the rink performing countless community service hours on behalf of the Wranglers.”

Robert Morris University plays in the Atlantic Hockey Association in NCAA D1 hockey. RMU is located in Neville Township, PA, and is two-time conference champions.

“Dom will join an impressive list of players like Greg Gibson, Timmy Moore, and Brady Ferguson who built their game in Amarillo and went on to have a very successful playing career at Robert Morris,” Mahood said.
