Amarillo, Tx– The Wranglers forward had eight goals and an assist in the four-game NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Mn last week. The nine-point outing earned Skrastins the South division’s ‘Star of the Week’ award.

“I wasn’t expecting but I was hoping for a really good performance.” Kristaps Skrastins said. “I was really happy about how the week went and happy with how the team played,” Skrastins said.

The Wranglers finished the tough four games in a four-day schedule with three wins and a loss which places the new franchise at the top of the division.

” I don’t think a lot of people expected us to have a lot of chemistry because we are still pretty new… I think we were really happy with how we bonded,” Forward Tommy Chunchukov said.

Chunchukov spent part of the week on the line with Glebs Porhorenkos and Skrastins which scored all the Wranglers goals in the win over the New Jersey Titans.

” I have never been part of anything like it, being on the ice with him almost slows the game down for us. Just being on a line with him gives me a lot of confidence,” Chunchukov said.

The four-game schedule presented the Wranglers with their first challenge of the regular season but the team was able to make the most out of the showcase.

“I was exhausted after the second game but it was really awesome how the team was able to work hard and get wins,” Skrastins said.

Despite the three and one start and eight goals, Skrastins knows there is plenty of work left in front of the team.

“I don’t really feel special, it is the start of the season and we have to get better every week and every day,” Skrastins said.

Skrastins is the first player in the young Wranglers history to be named the division’s player of the week and has the first two hat-tricks for the Wranglers.
