Weekend Preview: Odessa Jackalopes visit the Bullpen

Amarillo, Tx- After a three-week layoff, the Wranglers returned to action against Shreveport for the first two home games of 2022-23. Amarillo picked up one point Friday night in a 4-to-3 shootout loss. Tommy Chunchukov scored a pair of goals, and Roman Zap scored in Friday’s game.

The Wranglers got a goal from defenseman Preston Brighton on Saturday night but came out on the wrong end of a 3-to-1 score for their first regulation loss of the season.

After finishing fourth in league attendance last season, the Wranglers drew over 4,000 fans to the Budweiser Bullpen this past weekend. Fans got their money’s worth Friday night with plenty of back-and-forth goals and two fights. Saturday night featured a pregame ceremony for the longtime voice of hockey in Amarillo, Denis Puska. Over 2,000 fans saw the unveiling of the Denis J Puska Broadcast Post.

After a tough sweep at the hands of the Mudbugs, the Wranglers now turn their attention to hosting the seventh-place Odessa Jackalopes this weekend. Odessa is currently riding a three-game win streak following a sweep of the El Paso Rhinos at home last weekend. The Wranglers went 3-3-2 last season against Odessa.

Odessa is led by Emerson Goode, who has seven points in the first ten games. Ben Ivey leads the way for Amarillo with seven points in eight games. Goalie Carter Clafton currently has the third-best goals-against average with a 1.47.

Saturday night is the second annual ‘First Responders Night,’ where first responders get into the game for free and discounted tickets for friends and family. Last year’s First Responders Night’ drew over 2,000 people. Both games are scheduled for a 7:15 puck drop at the Budweiser Bullpen.
