Odessa, TX – The Odessa Jackalopes defeated the Amarillo Wranglers 3-2 in a five-round shootout on Friday night at Ector County Coliseum.

For the second straight game, the Wranglers and Jackalopes both started Connor McDonough and Quentin Sigurdson between the pipes. McDonough and Sigurdson are tied for the league lead in games played amongst goaltenders, both making their 24th appearances of the year in this game.

Odessa opened the scoring 9:58 into the first period when Hayden DeMars scored from Teddy Manlove and Adam Armijo. The Jackalopes quickly tacked on another goal 46 seconds later when Cameron Dunn scored on a breakaway from Jack Christen and Teddy Manlove to give Odessa a 2-0 lead. The Wranglers lead the shot count 8-7 after the conclusion of the first period.

Amarillo came out blazing on offense in the second period, outshooting the Jackalopes 15-5 in the second period. Late in the frame, Amarillo’s Jack Ivey scored his team-leading 15th goal of the season on the power play to cut into the Odessa lead 2-1. The Wranglers have now scored a power play goal in each of their last four games. Jack McDonald notched an assist on the goal to extend his point-scoring streak to four games. Odessa led 2-1 after two periods of play but the Wranglers led the shot count 23-12.

Exactly three minutes into the third period the Wranglers tied the game up 2-2. Jack McDonald found Ben Ivey streaking down the opposite side of the ice for a one-timer blast that beat Sigurdson for the game-tying tally. McDonald now has five assists in his last four games. Colin Doherty picked up the secondary assist. After 60 minutes the game was still tied and overtime wasn’t enough so we headed to a shootout.

After two rounds of the shootout, both teams had one score and one miss. Both teams were stopped in round three. McNaughton and Richman both scored in round four to send the shootout to round five. Michael Kadlecik scored for Odessa to win the game and the shootout 3-2 for the Jackalopes.
