Wranglers grab a point in thrilling OT showdown in Odessa

Odessa, Tx– The Wranglers pick up a point in an exciting 4-to-3 loss in overtime Friday night in Odessa.

The Jackalopes broke the ice 33 seconds after Ryan Mansfield beat Carter Clafton to open the scoring. Odessa would continue to pepper shots on the Wranglers’ goalie and double their lead at 4:47 of the first period with a Logan Ganz goal. Amarillo would respond later in the period when Chase Davis threw a puck toward the goal that changed directions and fooled Greg Orosz to get the Wranglers on the board. Clafton would deny the Jackalopes on a 3-on-1 breakaway in the last minute of the period.

Both teams would take turns generating scoring opportunities in the second period, but both netminders would make dazzling saves. Amarillo would finally draw even when Roman Zap scored on a 5-on-3 Wranglers powerplay. Things would get chippy at the end of the period when all ten skaters on the ice got involved in a post-whistle scrap. The extracurriculars would result in a Wranglers’ powerplay into the third period.

Amarillo could not cash in on the man advantage but got multiple grade-A scoring chances. Moments after the penalty expired, Chase Davis would be set up by Jack McDonald on a two-on-one rush to give the Wranglers their first lead of the game. Odessa would tie the game quickly when John Christen threw a puck off a Wranglers’ defenseman and into the back of the net. The rest of the period saw both teams throw everything at the opposing goalie. Both netminders would keep the door shut with save after save. Both teams would earn a point after the 3-to-3 tie after 60 minutes.

Odessa would control possession for the first minute of overtime before ending the game when John Perdion found open ice in front of Clafton for the game-winning goal.

The Wranglers pick up their 24th point of the year in the OT loss. Amarillo will look to earn 3 out of a possible 4 points with a win Saturday night.
