Wranglers make 14 additions to roster at NAHL Entry Draft

Amarillo, Tx (July 14, 2021)-The Amarillo Wranglers added many names to their roster during the 2021 NAHL Entry Draft. The Wranglers focused on the blue line early on but finished the day with a solid mix, selecting 14 total players. All picks are listed in order below:

Round 1 (3): Logan Rawlyk(D)

Rawlyk is a 6-foot-1 left defenseman out of Saskatoon, Canada. The 19-year-old played for the Pictou County Crushers of the MJAHL where he tallied 13 points in 25 games. 

Round 2 (32): Jacob Peterson(D)

Peterson is a right-handed defenseman from Marquette, MI. Peterson(age 19) spent the 2020-21 season with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League where he played in 13 games during the shortened season. 

Round 2 (38): Bryson Russell(D)

Russel split 2020-21 with the Northern Cyclones of 18U AAA and St. Pauls School in the USHS Prep league. The 18-year-old defenseman is from Palmyra, PA

Round 6 (151): Jake Bernadet(D)

Bernadet is a South Burlington, VT native and is listed at 5-foot-10. The 17-year-old played for both the Northern Cyclones 18U and 19U AAA prep in the 2020-21 season. 

Round 7(177): Jayden Price(F) 

Price was the first forward to be taken by Amarillo in this year’s draft. The 19-year-old played in the NAHL in 2019 for the Bismarck Bobcats before playing for the Philadelphia Hockey Club last season.  

Round 8(206): Jalen Price(RW)

Jalen is a 6-foot-1 right-winger who played 19 games last season for the Everett Silvertips. Price originally joined the Silvertips in 2018 and played in over 100 games in his three seasons in Everett. 

Round 9(235): Aidan Flynn(C)

Flynn had seven goals and seven assists in 31 games for the East Coast Spartans 18U AAA team in 2019-20. The 20-year-old is a native of Braintree, MA.

Round 10(264): Connor Brazil(C)

The Las Vegas product found himself in a handful of games during the 2020-21 season. In 2019-20 Brazil scored 63 total points for Gentry Academy 16U AAA, appearing in 58 games that season. 

Round 11(293): Alec Hamady(F) 

Hamady had 19 points in 19 games for Brother Rice High last season. The Michigan native also appeared in eight games in the NAPHL last year. Hamady had three assists in five playoff games in the NAPHL.

Round 12(322): John Johnson(C)

Johnson brings size to Amarillo standing at 6-foot-3. The center played 42 games for the New Jersey Rockets and had 34 total points in the 2020-21 season. Johnson spent time in the NAHL with the Brookings Blizzard in 2018-19 and a few games for the St.Cloud Blizzard in 2019-20. 

Round 13(351): Cole Carlson(LW) 

Carlson is a Wisconsin native and played for the Philadelphia Hockey Club in 2020-21. In 36 games, Carlson tallied 15 points and had an assist in two playoff games. 

Round 14(380): Johnny McCollum(D)

The Thunder Bay product adds more size to the blue line at 6-foot-3. The defenseman put up eight points in only four games last season for the Thunder Bay Kings 18U team. 

Round 15(409): Cody Brekke(F)
Brekke spent last season with the Ohio Blue Jackets 18U AAA team and played in 61 games, scoring 10 points. Brekke is from Oxford, OH. 

Round 16(436): Alexander Hollands(F)

The 18-year-old played for the Dallas Stars 18U AAA in 2020-21. Hollands had seven points in 15 games last season. 

The Wranglers submitted their protected list and tender signings before the draft. All NAHL teams will have to cut down their roster to 25 players on Sept. 1. The Wranglers will start their inaugural season on Sept. 24 when they host another expansion team, the El Paso Rhinos.
