Oct 15, 2021

Shreveport, LA– The Amarillo Wranglers used a strong performance from goaltender Max Gutjahr to defeat the Mudbugs      3-to-1.

The Wranglers opened the scoring when Kristaps Skrastins buried his tenth goal of the season with a power-play tally just 5:13 into the first period. Amarillo would double the lead with another power-play goal this time from Anthony Vidrick who beat Shreveport goalie Devon Bobak at the 11:20 of the period.

Shreveport would cut into the lead with a Niklas Miller rebound goal just three minutes after Vidricks goal to make it 2-to-1. The Mudbugs would pepper the Amarillo late but Gutjahr would make some big saves to preserve the one-goal lead going into the second period.

The second period would have a non-stop pace with both teams streaking down the ice and generating quality scoring chances. Both goalies would stand to the task and keep the puck out of the net until the final 30 seconds of the period. Yaroslav Samadov would net his first goal as a Wranlger with only 24 seconds remaining with a heads-up pass from Aidan Carney to give Amarillo a 3-to-1 lead heading into the final period.

The quick pace would continue into the third period where the Wranglers began to smother the Mudbugs offense with blocked shot after blocked shot. Both teams would get nine shots in the final period and both goalies would shut the door. Amarillo would hold off the final Mudbugs attack with the extra skater to secure the 3-to-1 victory.

Gutjahr would earn his fourth win of the season with a 36 save outing. Samadov and Carney picked up their first points as Wranglers. Kristaps Skrastins would net his tenth goal the day after committing to the University of New Hampshire.

The Wranglers are now 6-and-3 and have 12 points for the second spot in the division. Amarillo will look for the sweep Saturday night at 7:11 p.m.
