Wranglers tender Defenseman Preston Brighton

Jun 2, 2022

Amarillo, Tx– The Wranglers have bolstered their blue line with the signing of Preston Brighton for the 2022-23 season.

The 19-year-old played for the Renfrew Wolves last season in the Central Canada Hockey League. The defenseman put up 27 points in 54 games for the Wolves and is ready to make an immediate impact in Amarillo.

” I plan on contributing to the Wranglers back end by playing physical and blocking shots,” Brighton said. ” I would describe my play with the mindset of defense first, but when given the opportunity, I can help create offense and make plays to spring the offense.”

The 6-foot-2-inch defenseman is a native of Englewood, CA, and will join the Wranglers for his first season in the North American Hockey League. Brighton believes he is a good fit for the NAHL South division style of play.

“Playing in the south fits my game very well… along with playing competitive hockey, I’m looking forward to playing in front of a lot of fans, especially in the Amarillo Civic Center,” Brighton said.

Preston is the latest addition for the Wranglers as they look to build off a successful first season despite the additional speed bumps along the way. The Wranglers have wasted no time during their first full-length offseason to build their roster for the upcoming year.

“I’m very excited to play for coach Mahood because he has a great track record of advancing kids to the next level and wants to produce a winning culture in Amarillo,” Brighton said.

As for off the ice, Preston is excited to join the Amarillo community and the team culture of giving back.

“I have heard nothing short of great things, and I’m looking forward to volunteering in the community,” Brighton said.
